How breast cancer begins: Cells in the body normally divide when new cells are needed. Sometimes, cells in a part of the body grow and divide out of control, generating a mass of tissue called a tumor. If the cells that are growing out of control are normal cells, the tumor is called benign (not cancerous). If the cells that are growing out of control are abnormal and do not function like normal cells, the tumor is called malignant (cancerous).
Cancers are named after the part of the body from which they originate. Breast cancer originates in the breast tissue. Like other cancers, breast cancer can invade and grow into the tissue surrounding the breast. It can also travel to other parts of the body and form new tumors, a process called metastasis.
The symptoms of breast cancer include:Lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm that persists through the menstrual cycle
A mass or lump, which may feel as small as a pea.
A change in the size, shape, or contour of the breast.
A blood-stained or clear fluid discharge from the nipple.
A change in the feel or appearance of the skin on the breast or nipple (dimpled, puckered, scaly, or inflamed).
Redness of the skin on the breast or nipple.
A change in shape or position of the nipple
An area that is distinctly different from any other area on either breast.
A marble-like hardened area under the skin.
Facts: Every three minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Every eleven minutes in the U.S., a woman dies of breast cancer. Today, 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women ages 35 to 54. Source: http://www.uthscsa.edu/hscnews/pdf/BreastCancerFacts.pdf
Only about 5% of breast cancers occur in women with a genetic predisposition for the disease. The majority of breast cancer cases are "sporadic," with no direct family history of the disease.
One series of mammograms (2 x-rays on each breast) is equivalent to the radiation dose of 1000 normal chest or spinal x-rays, causing 75 cases of breast cancer for every 15 it identifies and up to a 52% increase in breast cancer mortality in young women given annual testing. In spite of (or rather because of) aggressive mammogram campaigns sponsored by the American Cancer Society and heavily financed by the radiology industry, breast cancer has increased by 18% since 1975. If what you are doing is not working, then do something else. Source: www.cancer.org
Routine mammography delivers an unrecognized high dose of radiation. If a woman follows the current guidelines for premenopausal screening, over a 10 year period she would receive a total dosage of about 5 rads. This approximates the level of exposure to radiation of a Japanese woman one mile from the epicenter of atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima or Nagasaki according to Dr Mercola
In the Cochrane review in 2001, all-cause mortality was higher among women who underwent screening mammography in eight of nine trials. 10-year mortality results in the most recent randomized trial in the UK had a lower-than-expected mortality in the unscreened group. A population-based case-control study in the United States in 2005 also showed no significant effect from breast-cancer screening.
Thermography does not use radiation and can detect breast abnormalities sooner than mammography. It costs about $175 and is not usually covered by insurance, but safer than mammography.
Causes: Increased body fat is linked to: 49% of endometrial cancers; 35% of esophageal cancers; 28% of pancreatic cancers; 24% of kidney cancers; 21% of gallbladder cancers; 17% of breast cancers (33,000 cases/year); 9% of colorectal cancers. Overweight and obese women were 35 percent more likely to get triple-negative breast cancers according to the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers HYPERLINK "http://cebp.aacrjournals.org/"&HYPERLINK "http://cebp.aacrjournals.org/" Prevention.
Take SSRIs and get a higher incidence of breast cancer. 27 million Americans now use antidepressants. Most of these are women who are twice as likely as to be diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and three times as likely to be diagnosed with Dysthymic Disorder.
Chances of a woman getting breast cancer are increased by excessive use of alcohol.
Heterocyclic amines, or HCAs, are compounds created in meats and other foods that have been cooked at high temperatures. The worst part of the meat is the blackened section, which is why you should always avoid charring your meat, and never eat charred sections. Studies have shown that humans who consume large amounts of HCAs have increased risk of stomach, colon and breast cancers.
A Johns Hopkins study of 390 women discovered that those with the lowest levels of B-12 were up to 4 times more likely to develop breast cancer than those with higher levels
A study of 3,300 cancer patients and 1,300 control subjects compared milk and dairy intake between the two groups found a significant association between the exclusive consumption of whole milk and increased risk of oral, stomach, rectum, lung and breast cancer. Parabens are a synthetic preservative and antimicrobial agent found in personal-care products like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, cleansers, body wash and in solid products like deodorant. Parabens appear as methyl-, ethyl-, butyl- or propylparaben. Studies have found that parabens mimic estrogen in the body and disrupt normal hormone function, and are commonly found in breast-tumor biopsies.
Many vaccines contain aluminum salts to boost the immune reaction. Studies have shown that this aluminum is slowly dispersed all over the body and concentrate in breast ducts helping cause breast cancer. Also containing aluminum salts are deodorants…
Women who reported high use of household cleaning products also had higher risks of developing breast cancer.
Eli Lilly & Company gets paid to cause cancer and then paid again to treat it! BGH stands for bovine growth hormone. Bovine growth hormone is an artificial hormone made by the Monsanto Corporation and Eli Lilly & Company. BGH’s full name is recombinant bovine growth hormone or, rBGH. Several studies have revealed that BGH is linked to colon, breast, and prostate cancers.
Natural Cancer Cures: Taking a daily 10 to 15 minute walk in the sun not only clears your head, relieves stress and increases circulation -- it could also cut your risk of breast cancer in half. - Dr. Esther John Epidemiologist
Melatonin blocks the effects of estrogen upon cancer cells in hormonally-influenced cancers, such as breast, endometrial, ovarian and uterine cancers.
According to a recent study published in Cancer Prevention Research, the compound called apigenin found in celery can stop certain breast cancer tumor cells from multiplying and growing.
Turmeric not only aids against diabetes but also helps cleanse the liver; offers natural anti-inflammatory properties; protects against breast and prostate cancers; counteracts depression; and slows the advance of Alzheimer's disease
Folate has been shown to reduce a woman's risk for heart disease and breast and colon cancer
The use of iodine in breast health is quickly gaining evidence for use. The ideal form and dose of iodine is not established, but there is considerable evidence that iodine is a necessary element for mitigating fibrocystic disease and perhaps even preventing breast cancer development.
Fermented soy is one reason why the Japanese have very little breast cancer unless they move to the good ole USA and start on the soy we eat here. Then their stats match ours…
Diet and lifestyle changes are the best offence for both prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Gluten free, casein free is a good start.
Avoid: all over the counter meat, poultry, & dairy products; fatty, charred or grilled foods; well-done meat, processed refined foods, junk food, saturated fats, white flour, sugar, refined salt, alcohol, caffeine, drugs, nicotine, saturated fats, artificial flavorings, colorings and preservatives.
Good Cancer fighting Foods: high-fiber, mostly vegetarian diet; whole grains, fruits & vegetables, tart cherries, spinach, cabbage, yellow & orange vegetables (carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, yams), red & green peppers, turnips, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, avacado, salt-water fish, brown rice, corn, alfalfa, soybeans, kelp, onions, strawberries, raw nuts (no peanuts), horseradish, yogurt, maitake and reishi mushrooms.
- 10 raw almonds a day
- R/O and structured water (no tap water)
- Fruit juices in the AM
- Vegetable juices in the PM
- Only organic/hormone free meat and dairy products because other types contain residue of estrogenic hormones that have been linked to promoting breast cancer.
